Dr. Ramwant Gupta (FSSCE) is working as a reader (associate professor) in the Department of Biology, Faculty of Natural Sciences, University of Guyana, Georgetown, South America. Before this, he served as an assistant professor in biology at Fiji National University, Fiji Islands from 2015 to 2020. Dr. Gupta received his Ph.D. in Plant Physiology (Major) and Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (minor) from G B Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, India in the year 2010. He completed Post-doctoral studies at Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi India from (2010 to 2014). Dr. Gupta was offered a Post-doctoral fellowship in Plant Sciences by form Agricultural Research Organization (ARO), the State of Israel in the year 2014. Dr. Gupta received a foreign fellow award-2020 from Society for Science of Climate Change and Sustainable Environment, New Delhi, India. Dr. Gupta awarded by Excellent Scientist Award-2021 in a Farmers’ training program jointly organized by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and the National Institute of Plant Biotechnology, New Delhi, India.
He teaches a wide range of biology courses viz., Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Genetics, Genomics and Bioinformatics, and Industrial Biotechnology, and supervises UG/PG students enrolled in biology. His major research interest area is in the genetics, pollen-pistil dynamics, and molecular physiology of efficient mechanisms for photosynthetic apparatus to enhance light use efficiency in plants. This includes the electron transport chain studies, oxygen-evolving complex, and photosystems. Additionally, he is interested in understanding photosynthesis and developing strategies that may allow it to be improved in the future to full fill food and energy demands of the growing population.
