The University of Guyana on Monday, November 6, 2023, hosted its Turkeyen and Tain Talks 23 titled: “Prepare Rather Than Fear – Venezuela’s Illegal Claim and its Possible Effects” at the Savannah Suite, Pegasus Hotel, Kingston, Guyana.

There were several high-level speakers addressing various aspects of this very important and timely conversation; these include: A Brief Historical Overview and Note on Effective Occupation by Dr Nigel Gravesande, Historian and Registrar of the University of Guyana; A Summary Overview of Guyana’s Case in the International Court of Justice by the Hon. Mr Carl Greenidge, Former Vice-President and Minister of Foreign Affairs who currently serves as the Government of Guyana's Agent to the International Court of Justice and Advisor on Border Matters; Guyana and Venezuela - Treaty Matters by Attorney Mr Ralph Ramkarran Esq., Former Speaker of the House, and Guyana Facilitator to the United Nations Good Officer Process under the Geneva Agreement relating to the Guyana-Venezuela Border Matter; Strategic Considerations Regarding Border Issues by Dr Barton, Scotland, Attorney at Law, Former Speaker of the House and First Guyana Facilitator to the United Nations Good Officer Process under the Geneva Agreement relating to the Guyana-Venezuela Border Matter and Member of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee on Guyana Border Matters; Managing Fear: Migration and Xenophobia by Dr Coreen Jacobs, International Relations and Migration Specialist, Department of Government and International Affairs and Director of the Institute for Migration and Diaspora Studies (IMIDIAS) at the University of Guyana; Vigilance Versus Vengeance: Managing Internal Relationships with Care by Dr Kara Lord, Psychologist, University of Guyana, Faculty of Education and Humanities and Centre for Behavioural Sciences and Research University of Guyana and Youth Perspectives by Mr Gilbert George, Student Leader, University of Guyana and Ms Malika Russel, Vice- President, University of Guyana Student Society (UGSS).
