Message from The Dean
It is truly an honour to welcome you to the University of Guyana School of Graduate Studies and Research, whose vision is to be a regional leader characterized by excellence in graduate programmes and research. We are committed to producing distinguished professionals who are ‘fit for purpose’ in knowledge, skills, innovation, creativity, and service.
Whether you are about to embark on a MSc, an MPhil, or a PhD programme, be assured that you will have an experience that you may find totally different from what you would have been accustomed to during your years as undergraduate students. At the graduate level, you are expected to focus exclusively on courses that support your selected field of research and to engage your research supervisor/s more frequently to ensure measurable progress towards the completion of your degree. You have the privilege of selecting the interdisciplinary MPhil or PhD in Biodiversity, or other Graduate Programmes that are available at the various academic units of the University. The Graduate Coordinators within those units are willing and ready to provide the necessary guidance.
Apart from the courses for which you will be registered, there will be monthly online graduate research oriented seminars that have already been planned with you in mind. I encourage you to attend each seminar, as the objectives are to strengthen your capacity to conduct very robust research, to manage the research process, and to communicate your research. Additionally, you will have opportunities to share your experiences, and to network with your peers across the campus. I am very confident that your unique experiences will enrich the programmes.
I wish you a very successful year ahead!!! Thank you for choosing the University of Guyana.
