Summary

To provide IT Project Management and technical leadership to teams of software developers to design, build/customise and evaluate new and/or existing mission critical and other software application solutions, and to deploy and/or integrate these into the software portfolio of the University of Guyana. In addition, the incumbent shall provide leadership in terms of maintenance and support of deployed software solutions that form part of the university’s software portfolio.

 

Qualification, Knowledge and Experience

Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science OR Management Information Systems OR Information Technology plus 6 years of post-graduation experience in software development plus the following:

Master’s Degree in Computer Science OR Management Information Systems OR Information Technology or related discipline plus 4 years of experience in software development or information systems management

  • Proven experience as a Software Engineer
     
  • Solid understanding of programming concepts
     
  • Proficient in one of these programming languages - PHP /.NET Technologies/Java Technologies
     
  • Rich experience with web technologies REST/SOAP web services and JS/CSS, AJAX (jQuery, etc.), HTML5
     
  • Good knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle.
     
  • Good working knowledge of one of these relational databases - MySQL/ MariaDB / PostgreSQL / MSSQL
     
  • Experience with the LAMP stack - Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP
     
  • Excellent analytical skills with a good problem-solving attitude
     
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills

 

Key Responsibilities
  • Works with an agile team to design, develop, test, debug and maintain database-driven web and mobile applications
     
  • Provide technical leadership to the software developers
     
  • Understand client requirements and how they translate into application features
     
  • Design new features and modules
     
  • Learn the codebase and database design of existing systems
     
  • Participate in peer-reviews of solution designs and related code.
     
  • Analyze and resolve technical and application problems. Responding to the requests of staff and students
     
  • Carry out Server administration tasks as necessary for smooth running of applications
     
  • Understand the concepts of software engineering and be a full-stack developer
     
  • Analyze and resolve technical and application problems.
     
  • Perform all other job-related tasks as assigned by the Director, Software Services and Educational Technology Applications

 

Salary

Placement on Salary Scale would be dependent on level of qualification and relevant experience.
