ABOUT US

Whoever touches the life of a child touches the most sensitive point of a whole, which has roots in the most distant past and climbs towards the infinite future. (Dr. Maria Montessori, 1870 –1952)

Education has often been described as the cornerstone of national development. The availability and commitment of good teachers are crucial for the provision of an effective educational programme.

The Department of Foundation & Education Management, Faculty of Education & Humanities, is one of the main departments providing the nation with professionally qualified personnel - teachers, supervisors and administrators.... Many of our graduates occupy very senior positions in the education, industrial and business sectors. The Department specialises in undergraduate study in the field of Administration, Early Childhood and Primary education and targets practitioners desirous of developing their skills in pedagogy, school management and policy and research in education.

In 2010, the department responded to CARICOM’s Regional Guidelines for early childhood development (ECD) and introduced an Early Childhood Professional Development (ECPD) programme in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund and the University of the West Indies Open Campus, Trinidad. Caregivers who provide services for children within the age group birth - 3 years now have access to a comprehensive training programme that is in keeping with the regulatory framework and training standards for promoting ECD in the Region.
