ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY
Guyana’s abundance of Natural Resources is fuelling an emerging Industrial economy which is generating increasing demands for trained Chemists at various levels and fields of specialization. These include the Extractive Industries (Gold, Bauxite, Oil, etc.), the Bioeconomy (Natural Products, Renewable Energy, Sustainable Materials, etc.), Food, General Manufacturing, and Education.
The primary mission of the Department of Chemistry is to train competent Chemists who can function effectively in a variety of Chemistry-based working environments, and perform at the highest level. Additionally, Graduates who wish to pursue postgraduate studies will be adequately equipped for the challenge. In the instances where Graduates of the Department elect to enter the Teaching profession, they will be well-positioned to effectively deliver at all levels, especially, at the Secondary and Post- secondary levels.
