Message from The Head of Department

Over the years the Department of Chemistry has produced numerous talented individuals who have played leading roles in local, regional and the wider global community. The training process of our chemists is geared to produce a multifaceted individual with good problem solving skills.

Chemistry is an exciting and expanding field; it lays the foundations for many of the technological developments that are driving the modern era. There are very few technological developments which did not depend on some aspect of chemistry to facilitate it.

The Department of Chemistry is conscious of the importance of its role in this developmental thrust. Over the past few years we have reviewed our programme offerings to be better aligned to the current and future needs of the wider society. As a result, we are now offering upgraded programmes which commenced this (2016/2017) academic year.

We have also benefited from a World Bank loan which allowed us to rehabilitate our laboratories and acquire a number of state of the art equipment which will allow us to facilitate cutting edge research and training.

Mr. Patrick Ketwaru
Head of Chemistry Department
