“A Presence too Great Not to Be Missed”, The University of Guyana mourns the passing of benefactor Dr Yesu Persaud

Tuesday, January 18, 2022 - 10:32

Our Beloved Dr. Yesu Persaud

It is with a profound sense of loss that the University of Guyana at this time records its institutional condolences on the passing of a keen and continuous supporter Dr Yesu Persaud.

Dr Persaud was special to the University in many ways and the University has been happy to have been able to compliment his dearness in tangible ways while he lived. First by organising and hosting a symposium on his work in 2017, then by conferring upon him the University's first honorary doctorate the following year. Then in 2021 by creating the tiny book "Yesu Persaud, Iconic Leader in Business and Innovation".

The University of Guyana has Dr Persaud to thank for its Cheddi Jagan Lecture Theatre, and the recent University's Yesu Persaud Medical Training Centre located in the Georgetown Hospital compound. There have also been other contributions of mentorship and support for students and other developmental projects. This includes the most recent contributions for UG's 60th anniversary in 2023 in which he was a part of conceptualizing, having set up the University's first Foundation for its 40th anniversary almost 20 years ago. Dr Persaud also had distinguished service on The University of Guyana’s Council and was also a Trustee on the new University of Guyana Foundation.

The University of Guyana records with deep respect our condolences on the passing of this man for all seasons, a rare and irreplaceable Guyanese.
