UG’s Integral Human Relations Programme for Staff and Students Begins Sept 15, to be offered free to public from Oct 2020

(Georgetown/Guyana/The University of Guyana/Sept 8/2020). The University of Guyana’s Human Relations Course which is to be taken by all staff and students beginning Sept 15, 2020 will be offered to the general public in two forms in the coming months – via UG radio 95.5 Intelligent FM and online as a certificate course. The programme was initially aimed at supporting diversity exposure, dialogue and modelling of appropriate attitudes and behaviors amongst UG’s 12, 000 strong community of staff and students.

This first of its kind Human relations course will be 15-hours over 6 modules offered online or ( and face to face when conditions are favorable). The six modules will include M1: Soft Skills – Etiquette, self-care, grooming, emotional intelligence, Social Media etiquette; M2. Gender and Social Justice - including sexual harassment, disabilities and violence; M3 Guyanese History and Cultural Diversity- including race, religion and nationalities; M4. Intro to Entrepreneurial Thinking and M5; Guyanese Geographies, including physical, legal, environment and Civics and M6 – Healthy Bodies and Minds: Nutrition and Immune Health. The University is collaborating with various individuals and entities to develop and deliver the course to its staff and students from this academic year as well as to the public.

The programme is currently being piloted free of charge on a first come first serve basis and will be run continually henceforth. Registration opens on Sept 10 modules begin on Sept 15, 2020 for UG staff and students who can register using the University’s SRMS and HRMIS interfaces for the course at course name Human Relations. The public offering will be opened and advertised in October. The radio programme will also be available in October. This programme had been in development since December 2019 under the auspices of the Office of The Vice Chancellor, then the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Philanthropy, Alumni and Civic Engagement. The programme is managed by the University’s Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CoETAL).
