US Embassy in Guyana Supports Strengthened Grant Writing Capacity for UG

Monday, September 5, 2022 - 10:30

Seven staff members from the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, Offices of the Deputy Vice-Chancellors and the Office of Philanthropy, Alumni and Civic Engagement have successfully completed a Certificate in Grant Writing through the University of Georgia earlier this year.

The training commenced on March 16, 2022, and ended in May. It was managed through the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Institutional Advancement), Dr Melissa Ifill. The Grant Writing Course was funded by the United States Embassy in Georgetown, Guyana.

The course focused on the following elements: The components of a Grant Proposal; How to write Letters of Intent and Inquiries; and how to explain Programme Budgets in writing.

Having completed the training, the staff are now equipped with the essential tools to write and assess grant applications to ensure all components are included and properly addressed.

The staff who successfully completed the course are: Christina Bynoe, Planning and International Engagement Officer; Desmond Leitch, Philanthropy Officer; Kelvin Bovell, Senior Monitoring and Evaluation Officer; Keshawna Garnett, Planning and International Engagement Officer; Mishel Moriah, Senior Technical Officer; Natalya Bobb-Semple, Coordinator-Change Projects; and Raulene Kendall, Planning and International Engagement Officer.

As such these officers in the departments they serve are now better equipped to support UG faculty and staff who wish support in reviewing and writing grant proposals. This activity supports UG’s Blueprint 2040 aspirational goal # 2 to make UG a Centre of Excellence for Research.

The University of Guyana extends its appreciation to the US Embassy and its warmest congratulations to the seven (7) staff who completed the course.
